Transmitting and recording video from a surgical robot

To allow surgical procedures to be reviewed after the event, Blue Wire has integrated a surgical robot into a video system

Blue Wire was approached for a video signal distribution project as part of the modernisation of an operating theatre at the CHU de Nancy teaching hospital.

Our task was to relay the images (right and left eyes) from the new surgical robot and from an overview camera installed in the room. The images were therefore digitised so that they could be picked up by a recorder, by the surgical light arm fitted with a screen and, above all, by a screen in a room adjoining the theatre for surgical trainees.

Blue Wire opted for a particularly open technology, which makes it possible, among other things, to broadcast operations live or on a deferred basis across the hospital network — to the faculty of medicine, for example.

This project genuinely mattered to us: it gave us the opportunity to work in a highly technical environment in which the interactions between pieces of equipment have to be precise, straightforward and, of course, thoroughly reliable. It could only be completed thanks to the collaboration of the local medical and technical teams, whom we thank for the enthusiasm they bring to their work.
